You may think injectables are something you’ll consider in the future, but BOTOX and Dysport® aren’t just about smoothing lines; they’re about helping your skin age gracefully on your terms. For many people in their 20s and 30s, these treatments are the key to maintaining a smooth and confident appearance that lasts. And if you’re already noticing fine lines, BOTOX and Dysport injections at our Denver clinic can minimize them.
Visited SkinLab for the first time a couple weeks ago, my Botox is settling in and I absolutely love it. Go see the team at SkinLab for your skin care needs! Picked up a few awesome products for my skin as well. Beautiful location!

What Is BOTOX?
BOTOX Cosmetic is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that temporarily relaxes the muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles—those are the lines that appear when you frown, smile, or raise your eyebrows. It is in a class of drugs called neuromodulators (sometimes also called neurotoxins or botulinum toxin type A injectables), which also includes Dysport, another injectable we offer. By reducing muscle activity, BOTOX and Dysport smooth out existing wrinkles and help prevent new ones from forming.
How Do BOTOX & Dysport Work?

BOTOX and Dysport work by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that cause facial muscles to contract, allowing the skin above them to relax and smooth out expression lines while maintaining natural movement.
You make hundreds of facial expressions every day, such as smiling, squinting, and raising your brows. Over time, those tiny muscle movements can etch lines into your skin. Both products contain botulinum toxin type A, a purified protein that temporarily blocks nerve signals that tell your facial muscles to contract. When the muscles relax, the skin above them softens, preventing fine lines from deepening.
These treatments target “dynamic wrinkles,” the lines that appear with movement, such as frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet.
What Are the Benefits of Neuromodulators?
Neuromodulators like BOTOX and Dysport do more than smooth fine lines; they subtly refresh your appearance and help your skin age better over time.
Top benefits include:
- Softer frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles
- Preventing early signs of aging by minimizing repetitive muscle movement
- A more rested, approachable expression
- No downtime, you can resume normal activities right away
- Results that build confidence without changing who you are
When done consistently, neuromodulators help maintain a smoother, more youthful look for years to come.
BOTOX vs. Dysport Comparison
BOTOX and Dysport are both excellent neuromodulators, but they differ in some ways. Here’s how they compare:
| Feature | BOTOX | Dysport |
| Onset of Results | Results typically appear in 7–10 days | Results may appear in 2–3 days |
| Duration | Lasts about 3–4 months | Lasts about 3–4 months |
| Unit Dosage | Requires fewer units per treatment (higher concentration) | Uses more units, but potency is equivalent |
| Results | Feels precise and targeted, ideal for smaller areas | Spreads slightly more, creating a softer, more diffused look |
While both neuromodulators achieve similar results, these differences may help determine which option is best suited to your goals.
- BOTOX is often preferred for precise, targeted treatment in small areas, such as frown lines and crow’s feet.
- Dysport tends to spread more easily under the skin, making it a popular option for broader areas like the forehead or for patients seeking a slightly softer, more diffused look. Results may also appear a bit sooner for some patients.
At SkinLab, one of our expert injectors will help guide your choice based on your anatomy, treatment areas, and aesthetic goals.
What Does Treatment Involve?
Your appointment is quick, comfortable, and surprisingly simple:
- Consultation: Your injector will evaluate your facial anatomy, expressions, and goals to create a customized plan.
- Preparation: The skin is cleansed before the treatment begins.
- Injections: Your provider uses a tiny needle to place a few small injections into targeted muscles. Most appointments take 10 to 20 minutes.
- Aftercare: You can return to your day immediately. Just skip workouts, saunas, or rubbing the treated areas for 24 hours.
Results begin to appear within a few days and reach full effect in about 2 weeks.
Preventive ‘Baby BOTOX’
Starting BOTOX or Dysport in your 20s or early 30s doesn’t mean you’re doing too much. It means you’re being proactive. The idea behind preventive BOTOX (sometimes called “baby BOTOX”) is simple: It’s easier to prevent wrinkles than to treat them later.

By starting early, you can:
- Keep lines from becoming permanent
- Train your facial muscles to move more gently over time
- Maintain your natural look with fewer units and lighter doses
Think of it as skin care at the muscle level, an easy, subtle way to slow down the visible signs of aging while keeping your expressions natural and effortless.
Other Popular Uses for BOTOX
While BOTOX is best known for reducing expression lines, its other uses have become popular among many Denver locals.
- Jawline slimming (masseter BOTOX): Relaxes enlarged masseter muscles to create a slimmer, more contoured, and tapered jawline.
- BOTOX brow lift: Creates a subtle lifting effect that opens the eye area and softens heaviness around the brows.
- Lip flip: Subtly enhances lip shape and makes the upper lip appear fuller by relaxing the muscles around the upper lip.
- Trapezius (Trap BOTOX): Creates a longer, more elegant-looking neck and shoulder contour by relaxing overactive trapezius muscles.
- TMJ, bruxism, and jaw pain: Reduces clenching, teeth grinding, jaw tension, and related discomfort by relaxing overactive jaw muscles.
- Headaches and migraines: Relaxes targeted muscles that may contribute to tension headaches and chronic migraines, helping reduce symptom frequency and severity for some patients.
- Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating): Decreases excessive sweating in the underarms, hands, or feet by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that stimulate sweat glands.
Side Effects & Safety
When performed by a trained injector, BOTOX and Dysport are extremely safe. The most common side effects are mild and short-lived, like:
- Temporary redness or pinpoint swelling at the injection sites
- Mild bruising or tenderness
- A subtle feeling of tightness for a day or two
Eyelid Droop After BOTOX or Dysport
Rarely, patients may notice temporary eyelid drooping or asymmetry after treatment. This side effect is usually mild and resolves on its own over time. Although Dysport is sometimes thought to carry a slightly higher risk of this side effect because it tends to spread more easily beneath the skin, research does not clearly show that one product is more likely than the other to cause it.
Before treatment, your injector will carefully assess your facial anatomy, skin quality, brow position, muscle movement, and aesthetic goals to determine whether the brow area is an appropriate treatment area for you. In some cases, they may recommend modifying or avoiding treatment in certain areas to reduce the risk of eyelid drooping.
You can minimize side effects by following your provider’s post-treatment instructions, such as skipping workouts for 24 hours and avoiding rubbing the area.
Our SkinLab injectors are highly trained in facial anatomy and specialize in conservative, natural-looking results, so your outcome looks natural.
How Often Should You Get BOTOX or Dysport?
Most of our patients schedule treatments every 3 to 4 months to maintain results. We’ll help you find your ideal rhythm based on your goals, muscle strength, metabolism, treatment area, and how your body responds over time. Some people naturally metabolize neuromodulators more quickly, while others may notice their treatments lasting longer with regular treatments.
How To Make Your Results Last Longer
While individual results vary, you can protect the longevity of your results by following your injector’s aftercare instructions and maintaining healthy skincare habits.
To make your results last longer:
- Stick to a consistent skincare routine (hello, SkinCeuticals antioxidants and sunscreen!)
- Stay hydrated and protect your skin from sun damage
- Avoid smoking, which can accelerate collagen breakdown and skin aging
- Maintain a consistent treatment schedule to help reduce the strength of repeated facial contractions over time
Good habits plus smart treatments equal naturally radiant skin that lasts.

BOTOX FAQs
Will I still look like myself?
BOTOX and Dysport do not dramatically change your appearance or “freeze” your face. They minimize movement so you look rested and youthful. You’ll still smile, laugh, and express yourself, just with smoother skin.
When should I start BOTOX or Dysport?
Many people begin preventive treatments in their late 20s or early 30s, while others wait until they notice deepening lines. If you’re starting to notice faint lines that stick around after you stop smiling or frowning, you’re a great candidate.
Is there any downtime?
You can return to work, brunch, or errands right after your appointment. Just skip exercise and facials for the rest of the day.
Does it hurt?
You’ll feel a few quick pinches, but most patients find the injections to be very tolerable due to the very small needle. We can apply ice if you’re sensitive.
Can I combine this with other treatments?
BOTOX and Dysport pair perfectly with dermal fillers to minimize both dynamic and static wrinkles. Scheduling subsequent appointments for our SkinCeuticals facials, chemical peels, or microneedling can address your other concerns.
